Sprue Whispering

I have finally started work on my Thousand Sons Tartaros Terminators. New color recipe and a hybrid kit-bash of the BoP Tartaros and Scarab Occult Terminators.  There are another two, they just didn't quite fit into the photo.  So what is my recipe, this time around? Primer - Stynylres Black Base - VGC Heavy Red Mid-tone - VGC Bloody Red Highlight - VGC Orange Red Pin-wash Shade - Carroburg Crimson Now, I like the signature look of the gloss 'cherry' effect. So to achieve this, I will go back over the miniatures and dust them with Badger Ghost Tint Fresh Blood Red. Fingers crossed the Ghost Tint works, if it doesn't it will be a real shame because the color scheme effect, thus far, looks awesome.

Refreshed after painting the Saurus warrior, I got stuck into the base for my Emperor laying down the blue tones, highlights and some weathering. Now to get stuck into the fern and skull details. More to come.

I was a little deflated by the Reaper Bones miniature, so I thought I would try a different company's miniature. This time I  tried an OOP Citadel Miniatures Saurus Warrior. I believe Games Workshop call these guys Seraphon, now-a-days. This is how it started out. I really have to say the exaggerated detail pretty much paints itself and, truthfully, it was a ball of fun to work on.   And the final piece, with completed base.   What a great palate cleanse and reset. It has gotten me excited to go paint my large batch of Thousand Sons, World Eaters, Space Wolves and the Master of Mankind. More to come.

So a good friend of mine has a grandson and wanted to get a few things painted for him. Given I don't actually do commissions, as I don't think I am that good of a miniature painter, however I thought I would try to paint a miniature for someone else. First up, my friend's grandson had a D&D miniature that he owned and wanted painted. It was a Reaper Bones series Kobold. Now I will say one thing about the Reaper Bones series, they are cheap and good bang for your buck, especially if all you want is tabletop quality. But this is where my praises kind of end. Mold slippage, excess flash and inconstant detail. A bit of a nightmare, really. That being said paint goes down on these miniatures okay. My Friend's Grandson asked for green dragon scales and orange hair, which is pretty cool as they are very contrasting and cause a good amount of 'pop'.  My only issue was, the miniature was starting to look a little too much like The Hulk. Some progress on the Legio Audax Knight Titan. Interestingly  Titans are pretty easy to paint, but because they're so big, they kinda become too large and unwieldy. Now Audax is know for its firey paint scheme, so I am going to try something with this guy, by adding a crackle layer over the fire blend. As you can see the bases is almost complete, and I even got a little time to work on the carapace, adding some scorch marks to break up the monotony. More to come.

So given it's a New Year I thought I would take stock of how much progress I have, or barely have, gotten on my World Eaters force. Praetor with Paragon Blade and Thunder Hammer. First Tactical Squad Second Tactical/Rampager Squad Red Butcher Squad-1    Red Butcher Squad-2 Contemptor Dreadnought   Leviathan Siege Dreadnought Some Primus Medicae   And a bunch more Tactical Squads, Dreadnought Drop Pod, Anvillus Dreadclaw and a Spartan or two.  More to come.
