The Unforgiven - Dark Angels #12

Here's a blast from the past. I found this guy, sitting about and actually attached him to a base. I should go back in and finish some weathering, edge highlighting and grab a proper picture of the little fella.

Work continues on the Unforgiven Praetor. This time some work on the cloak. More to come.

Progress continues on the Unforgiven Sergeants. backpacks added, tabards finished and blended down. I still have to finish of the plasma pistol, and edge highlighting and the final detail lint on the tabards of the sergeants. On this sergeant, I have started added adding lighting effects to the power maul. First time I have done this, so I there will be many more layers added then washed/filtered back. More to come.

The Unforgiven Plasma Gunners are completed. This brings the Unforgiven squads to a close, for the rank and file. I might add some snow effects to the bases, to bring them into line with my Wolves, not sure yet.

Further work on the Unforgiven Sergeants and Interrogator. This time the glow on the plasma pistols and the blades. For the first Sergeant I chose a traditional Power sword finish, in blue. I stumbled with respect to what I should do with the power maul. Finally, I thought I would try my hand at some lightning effects on the Interrogator's sword.  So I put down the blues was the basis. I will glaze the colors back while I build the lightning effects. More to come.

Paint is down on the Veteran Sergeants. Same base primer and base coating recipe as you've seen before. And with blacklining wash and first layer of Vallejo Game Air Bone White on the tabards.

The tactical marine blob squad (20) is almost complete. Just the heavy plasma gunners left to finish off. Job done up to a table top standard. I found that I did rush the edge highlights towards the end, a very tedious task across 20 marines, so it does show a bit. What I do think I need to do, is come back with a glaze of GW Waywatcher Green and knock back the brightness of it all.  Now I just have to finish the Plasma guns for this motley crew. More to come.

The Unforgiven Dark Consul Kit-Bash #1

Work begins on my Dark Consul, re-purposing the Kurtha Sedd model with parts from the Dark Angels Command Squad. As I was already painting up the Unforgiven, the miniature was fast tracked to the spray booth. Starting with the usual recipe  of Vallejo German Grey primer coat . This was then followed by a base coat of Vallejo Game Air Dark Green.        I followed this with a zenithal highlight of Vallejo Game Extra Opaque Heavy Black Green. Then a deep wash of blacklining wash.  And with the first layer on the tabard, with Vallejo Game Air Bone White.   Plenty more work left on this one. More to come.

I got a chance to get a lot of the work done preparing the bases for the Unforgiven. Twenty (20) of them, in fact. This is the first time I have used cork, instead of just the ballast. After I base coated the bases with Vallejo Polyurethane Primer German Grey, I noticed the cork surface was still very apparent. So I went back and added ballast. Respraying the primer coat. I then went back and made an initial drybrush of Vallejo Game Color Pale Grey Blue. I went back in and drybrushed Vallejo Game Color White, concentrating on the  center "platform" edges. Now I just have to find some time to add clump foliage. More to come on this.

Now time for the Unforgiven Sergeants. The Dark Vengeance box set comes with a Sergeant the has a relatively decent pose, however I just had to tweak it a little and give them more of a traitor-esque feel. Here is the initial pose side-by-side with the first tweaked version.   A Chaos Beserker plasma pistol and power maul instead of the original plasma pistol and chainsword. The head swap was mandatory, coming from the Dark Angels Command squad. The plasma pistol will eventually play as a Volkite Charger. I will have to fill the shoulder gap on the power maul arm. For the next sergeant, I swapped the chainsword for a power sword and the head swapped out for another cowled command squad head. I am still trying to work through what to do with the plasma pistol. Not quite sure, yet.   More to come, when I work out the load out and get them to the spray booth.

Time to hit the spray booth. I start with a primer coat of Vallejo German Grey. Followed by a base coat of Vallejo Game Air Dark Green followed by a zenithal highlight of Vallejo Game Extra Opaque Heavy Black Green. Adding a little Blacklining wash to define the panel lines. Adding Vallejo Game Air Wolf Grey to the chest and shoulder details. Base coating the red details  with Vallejo Game Extra Opaque Heavy Red. Final edge highlight with Vallejo Game Air Sick Green. Secret Weapon Blue-black wash the shade the chest details Dry fitting the weapons. More to come.

A full twenty (20) Dark Vengeance Dark Angel Marine models are all prepared and ready to go for a wash and off to the spray booth for primer and painting. This means a few hours of stripping the flash seams, cutting the base tabs, drilling the bolters and feet. I am still on the fence on altering the sergeants. I will do at least one. And the Wolves face off against the Unforgiven. I might have to assemble another 10+ Blood Claws. to even things out. And I really should add decals and snow effects to the bases.   Next time. Priming and painting?

After grabbing my copy of Betrayal at Calth, I realized that I now have a bunch of Space Wolf Legionnaires, in the pipeline, but I don't have anyone to fight against ... or do I? How about the shed load of Dark Angels from the Dark Vengeance Starter set.  I have a bunch of them left over, unpainted and un-assembled. It fits the fluff, the enmity between the Wolves and the Unforgiven. The first ten, altering the bolter barrels on the Corvus pattern marines and cutting the slotta tabs from the feet, so I can paint the miniatures a little easier with the airbrush. I also began work on the bases. This time I am trying something different. I am trying cork this time. Lets see how is goes, compared to bark pieces. Keep watching this blog to find out how it all goes.
