Sprue Whispering

Today I am building more bases. On the left hand side are bases for my World Eaters Tactical Squad and on the right are the bases for the VI Legion Veteran Tactical squad.  I used my usual recipe, built on 32mm bases with a piece of cork, then 4 types of grit (large, medium, small and fine) poured over PVA glue. For my World Eaters bases, I included the obligatory resin skull. I still need to prime, paint, wash and drybrush the bases, before I place tufts and finish the rims off in black. And you probably notice that my World Eaters Rampager Sergeant finally made it to the list to be based. More to come.

How do you make your bases? So I have been posting up my bases over the past few months, when I got a ping from a follower on how I actually build them.  My bases are pretty simple, truth be told.  The process is as follows: Dab some PVA on a bark chip and put it on a side of the base. Paint the rest of the base with PVA. I use the Gale Force Nine Urban Rubble Pack.  Starting with Large Grit, close to the Bark Chip, then Medium Grit further out, ending with a sprinkling of Fine Grit over the rest of the base. When this is all dried, 24+ hours or so, I come back in and basecoat with Badger Stynylrez Black Primer . When this is dry I give a dry brush of Vallejo Game Air Pale Greyblue. Then another highlight, depending if it is part of a snow landscape (with Vallejo Game Air Wolf Grey) or elsewhere (Vallejo Game Color White). When this is all dry, I then grab some Army Painter Battlefields: Winter Tufts, break of a piece, dab some PVA and glue ...

  Have you ever had a situation, when you didn't have a base on hand, and you couldn't remember the dimension, or you were making a multi base slot and couldn't work out which base you could fit on the base ? Well most of you, in this hobby, may have hit this on the most rarest of occasions. Like I did recently. After a few minutes of searching for what base was what size, I decided to make a little visio mock-up  to work out what bases would fit inside existing larger bases, so I could make a cinematic base for three models that would make up my Logan Grimnar conversion. Here is what I came up with, so I wouldn't have to go hunting again, in to the future. So you may be asking, "what do I need this for? " As you know I am working on Grimnar and "Stormrider", where I want to model the mounted Grimnar with his two Thunderwolf buddies.
