Horus Heresy Characters - Master of Mankind - The God Emperor of Mankind #1

So I am working on a Narrative campaign, where Malcador takes a group of Custodes and Sisters of Silence through the Webway on Earth looking for the Emperor. As part of this, I had to make a representation of the Emperor. This is the progress, thus far. 

 I am trying to base him off this popular depiction.

So when I started out on this kit-bash, I took a moment to contemplate the size of God Emperor. Ofter he is reported to appear as all things to all men. Different, yet similar, whatever he wanted you to think he looked like. However there is one thing that is never really made clear, his height. Given he is pre-post human hyper man, nor Primarch, I am guessing he would have been tall for a human, but not quite Primarch, in stature. Given this I started with the following:

  • Head: Blood Angels with a laurel
  • Legs: Custodes
  • Torso: Custodes
  • Right Arm: Lord Celestant
  • Left Arm: Prospero MkIII Armor Power Fist
  • Scrolls and leather pteruges: Lord Celestant
  • Chest: Bits from Blood Angels and Dark Angels kits
  • Base: Custom from my World Eaters set
Now I wasn't happy with the kit-bash thus far. The hair wasn't long enough and the right shoulder pauldron just didn't fit. So I went back and made a second effort. This is how he coming along:


  • Head: Space Wolves Wolf Pack Head (He-man style) with a laurel
  • Legs: Custodes
  • Torso: Custodes
  • Right Arm: AoS Lord Celestant
  • Sword Hilt and Pommel: AoS Skull Reaper
  • Sword Blade: AoS Lord Celestant
  • Left Arm: Prospero MkIII Armor Power Fist and  White Lion Shoulder Plate
  • Pauldrons: Custodes with bits from Blood Angels Assault Terminator Kit
  • Scrolls and leather pteruges: AoS Lord Celestant
  • Halo: AoS Lord Celestant
  • Chest: Bits from Blood Angels and Dark Angels kits
  • Base: Scibor Ancient Ruins Set 2 Monstrous 40mm base 
 I still have to work out how I am going to do his cloak,  with fur trim.  Whether I press-mold it from the Custodes Sergeant cloak or some other mini. Maybe I will roll out some green-stuff  and try to sculpt my own.

Burning of Prospero has dropped, so I got stuck into putting together a Vigilator squad armed with greatswords. I did make one little tweak to my squad though, as I wasn't quick enamored with the helmets/heads supplied with the miniatures. My thought would be that the Vigilators would all be nondescript Sisters with full face helmets, with the squad leader having a more ornate helmet. I will go through my recipe for their armor if they turn out. Let's just say this group is still on trial.

All your base ? - General Ramblings #6

  Have you ever had a situation, when you didn't have a base on hand, and you couldn't remember the dimension, or you were making a multi base slot and couldn't work out which base you could fit on the base ? Well most of you, in this hobby, may have hit this on the most rarest of occasions. Like I did recently. After a few minutes of searching for what base was what size, I decided to make a little visio mock-up  to work out what bases would fit inside existing larger bases, so I could make a cinematic base for three models that would make up my Logan Grimnar conversion. Here is what I came up with, so I wouldn't have to go hunting again, in to the future. So you may be asking, "what do I need this for? " As you know I am working on Grimnar and "Stormrider", where I want to model the mounted Grimnar with his two Thunderwolf buddies. The kicker is I want to be able to separate out any/either model from the base, if and when they die. B

Yes, I am back, it's been a while. And this time around, I got a chance to do a bit of a do-over on my Master of Mankind, the Emperor. You'll remember where I had left of on this model (See below). Whilst it was a fun conversion, I just didn't feel it captured the essence of the Emperor.   So when the new Roboute Guilliman (aka Row-boat Girly-man) was released I knew I just had to make the conversion. The basis of the Guilliman is truly a pretty model. Lots of detail. So what could I alter to make him look like the Emperor? Well, I focused on the areas of the highest detail, which could be re-constructed: Halo Shoulder Pad Power Claw Baltea (hanging leather waist straps) So starting with the Power Claw, I used a jewelers saw to cut the hand from the arm. This will enable me to re-position the hand into a position were it appears that the Emperor is conjuring. I then re-cast some claws from the ForgeWorld Resin Kor Phaeron miniature and attache
